General Cinema

In my hometown, there’s an abandoned General Cinema in the middle of what Brodie (from Mallrats) would call the “dirt mall.”

I’ve often fantasized about a midnight popcorn takeover, so I did the next best thing by hopping into the DeLorean time machine to go back to 1985!

Here, the movie tickets are only $2.75 and they’re screening some of my favorite 80’s films: Back To The Future, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Brazil and The Breakfast Club. The kids line up to the left while the adults line up to the right.

But I was more of a 1995 kid. Here I saw Mortal Kombat, Toy Story, The Brady Bunch Movie and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Not quite as good as the 1985 films, but good enough for a 13-year old me. And hey, they were all bargain matinees at only $4.25 a pop.

Now it costs $4.25 FOR a pop, so I better get back home for some streaming instant downloads…
